Remove text without recreating the background

Content-aware fill guesses. Clone stamp takes time. Plakat does something different: it isolates the text on its own transparent layer, so toggling text off reveals the actual background underneath — reconstructed, not patched.

Why this works better than 'erase'

Traditional text removal erases pixels and tries to fill the gap. That works on flat backgrounds. It breaks on textured, gradient, or photographic backgrounds — you get a visible smudge where the text used to be. Plakat decomposes instead: the AI reconstructs the full background layer as if the text was never there.

How to use it

Upload your image. Hit decompose. You'll see two layers minimum — text and background. Click the eye icon next to the text layer to hide it. The background is still there, intact, without the text. Export as a transparent PNG if you want to reuse the background elsewhere.

When it's not a fit

If the text is heavily stylized to blend into the imagery (part of the photograph itself, not overlaid), the AI may treat it as foreground rather than text. Works best on posters, flyers, and marketing graphics where text is clearly a separate design element.

FAQ

Common questions

Does this work on screenshots?

Yes, as long as the text is visually distinct from the background. Works great for UI screenshots, marketing creative, and social graphics.

Can I put my own text back on the clean background?

Yes — add a text layer in the editor. It sits on top of the clean background and is fully editable.

What about text that's part of a photograph?

Printed text in a photo (street signs, book covers) is harder — the AI may keep it as part of the foreground. Overlaid design text is what this tool is tuned for.
